When it comes to search engine algorithms and other

online technologies, there is none other than the almighty

Google. Some may argue that Google is merely a simple

search engine, possessing powers equivalent to those of

Yahoo or MSN, but I believe that Google is far more than

that. I believe that Google is a deceptive corporation

composed of a massive group of technological geniuses on a

conspiratorial vocation to take over and destroy the

biological world. Sure, that may sound a bit extreme to

many people, but for those of us who watch every move

Google makes and rush to try out every new piece of

software they release, it is a dramatic realization of what

is destined to soon become the next world power. Google.

Google was developed in 1996 by two Stanford PhD

students by the names of Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Larry

Page was born on March 26th, 1973 in Michigan. His father,

Dr. Carl Victor Page, was a Computer Science professor at

Michigan State University. Larry had a strong interest in

computers all through his life, and his father did his best

to encourage him. Larry graduated from the East Lansing

High School in Lansing, Michigan, and then enrolled in

Michigan State University, where he received a Bachelor of

Science degree in the engineering field. He met Sergey

Brin while working on his PhD at Stanford University. Brin

was born in August of 1973 in Moscow, Russia. He attended

grade school in the United States, but he was home schooled

for junior high and high school. Brin had a broad interest

in mathematics, so a great deal of his home schooling

consisted of his father teaching him vital math skills.

The rest of his family helped him in retaining his Russian

language skills. In 1993, Brin received his Bachelor of

Science degree in computer science and mathematics from the

University of Maryland with high honors. He then attended

Stanford University and received his masters degree in

computer science in 1995. This came far ahead of schedule

in the course of his PhD, during which he met Page.

The two began working on a project in which their goal

was to create a search engine that returned more relevant

search results in a more efficient amount of time. They

derived the concept that improved search results could be

generated using algorithms that analyzed relationships

between web pages. Google’s system checked backlinks in an

attempt to gauge the significance of a site. Due to this

technology, Google was initially denominated Backrub.

Google started out using the sub domain

http://google.stanford.com, but registered the domain

www.google.com on September 15, 1997. On September 7,

1998, they officially incorporated their company as Google

Inc. Soon after the popular search engine AltaVista

relaunched themselves as a portal, Google began to grow

extremely rapidly. Their offices at 165 University Avenue

in Palo Alto quickly became far too small for the expanding

operation, forcing Google to relocate. They outgrew two

more sites before coming to rest at 1600 Amphitheater

Parkway in Mountain View in 2003. This extensive building

complex is known as “The Googleplex”.

On September 4, 2001, Google was granted U.S. Patent

6,285,999. This patent describes PageRank, Google’s own

ranking mechanism. The patent was assigned to Stanford

University and Larry Page was listed as the inventor.

Google has shown signs of its quest for power in its

efforts to buy out as many key corporations as they are

able to. The first significant event in this chain is

Google’s purchase of Pyra Labs. Pyra Labs is the

developing company of blogger, a leading host site for web

logs. This allowed Google to be able to return search

results from the web logs of millions of different

individual users, while increasing the speed and relevance

of the corporation’s searches in general. Google also

purchased the rights to Picasa, a website which allows

users to post their photos, comment on each others’ photos,

and even edit their photos online. In Fall 2005, Adobe

Systems Incorporated, the producer of Photoshop, Acrobat,

Premiere, and other visual editing software, purchased

Macromedia, the producers of Flash and Dream Weaver.

Consider the possible outcomes if Google were to

purchase Adobe Systems in the future. One of these

possible outcomes could be the merging of the Adobe Acrobat

and Macromedia Flash software, which could possibly lead to

the creation of a new file format with which Google could

display its search results. This software program could

allow Google to display a flash animation or other visual

object for each search result that pans over the entire

website that particular result links to, enabling the user

to visually preview a website before viewing the entire

page. This would help users by making it easier to

identify spam sites, sites irrelevant to their search, or

any other undesirable web pages. Although it may seem like

an incredibly powerful tool to possess, it would also seem

logical to include the ability for each user to toggle the

display on or off, and/or adjust its size, due to the fact

that this inclusion would significantly slow page load

speeds.

There is also reason to believe that Google is

building its own supercomputer, complete with an operating

system made by Google. According to Rich Skrenta:

“Google is a company that has built a single very large, custom

computer. It’s running their own cluster operating system. They make

their big computer even bigger and faster each month, while lowering

the cost of CPU cycles. It’s looking more like a general purpose

platform than a cluster optimized for a single application.

While competitors are targeting the individual applications Google has

deployed, Google is building a massive, general purpose computing

platform for web-scale programming.

This computer is running the world’s top search engine, a social

networking service, a shopping price comparison engine, a new email

service, and a local search/yellow pages engine. What will they do

next with the world’s biggest computer and most advanced operating

system?”

Original Article . http://blog.topix.net/archives/000016.html

With its own supercomputer and custom programmed

operating system, Google’s ability to create incredibly

advanced software will increase rapidly. It is possible

that Google may use this system to crawl websites and

online databases, storing mass amounts of personal data and

on its hard disks. It has also been addressed that Google

may be planning on giving every GMail user an account on

this machine. With millions of users operating on one

platform simultaneously, this could bring up a major issue

dealing with the amount of memory the computer must

maintain available at any one time. This would be

especially true if Google were to let these users install

and run software applications on this equipment.

On December 8, 2005, Google released a warning,

stating that if computers’ power efficiency level isn’t

increased significantly in the near future, the cost of

power used to run even a low-end server will greatly

outweigh the price of the server itself. This would cause

a major problem for Google, due to the fact that it relies

on hundreds of servers just to keep its everyday business

running correctly. With the addition of this new

supercomputer, if this change isn’t undergone quickly

enough, Google may begin losing millions of dollars in

power fees, and may even end up shutting down their search

engine and/or any of their other provided services.

In December 2005, Google and Microsoft were battling

over the purchase of AOL. On December 7, it looked as

though Microsoft had the clear advantage, but Google pulled

through on December 20 and sealed the $1 million deal.

Many possibilities may arise from this particular

situation. Google may begin integrating AOL’s ISP

technologies and become an ISP provider in itself. Of

course, if they continue with AOL’s dial-up based service,

they will only be losing money, so they would have to be

able to transform these newly acquired technologies into a

broadband service. If this level is achieved, Google may

also begin offering Wi-Fi services for free over large

areas. Eventually, they may release free Wi-fi globally,

causing every ISP in the world to lose all of their

customers and go out of business.

With all of the world’s ISP’s out of business, Google

could then begin to charge a very small fee for their Wi-Fi

service, probably equivalent to around 50 cents a month

USD. This fee would gradually increase a little at a time,

probably around 10 cents USD per year. After a period of

time, Internet would be necessary for humans to carry on

their regular activities, and without it, the human

civilization would come to near extinction, if not total

extinction. Noticing this vital demand for Internet,

Google would then raise this fee substantially and begin

making colossal revenues, whilst being careful not to raise

the rate to high, due to the fact that new, cheaper ISP’s

would develop, causing their revenue to dive rapidly.

Once Google controls the world’s Internet access, they

will be able to monitor and store every single piece of

data transferred between every computer on Earth. In this

case, they will be able to access extremely confidential

personal information and store it on the super computer

they are building. Some of the included information that

Google would be able to steal would be credit card numbers,

social security numbers, and other sensitive information.

They could then use this information to buy new equipment

for their constantly growing corporation.

If Google begins stealing money from the entire world,

there would obviously be an enormous uprising of global

citizens and governments, so it needs to be addressed how

the Internet Giant will be able to fend off these

rebellious users. With the incredible sums of money that

can be achieved by stealing from the entire world, Google

would be able to pay people a large amount of money so they

could form something similar to their own military. They

would also use these funds to purchase weapons and rations

for this newfound “military”, and to pay for the costs of

training the soldiers.

Once Google is able to defeat the governments and

militaries of The United States, Great Britain, Russian,

Japan, and China, they will have access to even greater

amounts of money and much higher quality military

equipment. They would also be able to force people to

fight in their military, rather than having to pay people

to fight. This would give Google a considerably higher

advantage than they already had against the other, less

powerful nations.

After Google has maintained physical power over the

world, they will begin using intelligent robots and replace

all human beings. In Ray Kurzweil’s book, The SingularityIs Near, he addresses the point that if the speed of

technology keeps accelerating at its current exponential

rate, it will have become much faster than the human brain

by the year 2045. He says that humans will be forced to

undergo a paradigm shift by using nanotechnology to

integrate with technology, there will be no use for humans

after a number of generations, causing the human population

to begin decreasing as rapidly as the speed of technology

is increasing, if not faster. At this rate, the human race

will become extinct and intelligent robots will dominate

the world within a matter of only a few generations,

denying the past existence of any biological life whatsoever.
